Flute Faculty/Adult Studies
Heather Kent is a professional flutist and dedicated teacher who has performed in numerous solo, orchestral, and chamber settings throughout the years. She was educated in Boston, remaining in the area to teach flute performance through Gordon College, a position she enjoyed for twelve years. While at Gordon, she was an active soloist with the Gordon Symphony, a member of the Faculty Woodwind Quintet, and a participant in the Mentor Program. She was also the Director of the Gordon College Flute Choir, founder of the North Shore Community Flute Choir, and later was the invited Founding Director of Northshore Youth Symphony Orchestra’s flute choir program.
Dedicated to the arts, Ms. Kent has served as past-President for the Greater Boston Flute Association, served on the board of directors for the James Pappoutsakis Flute Competition, and has been an active, hands-on member within the National Flute Association. She has written flute- and arts-related articles, designed and implemented pedagogy programs, and has been an invited Guest Artist through select performance and teaching venues. Many of her students have found their way into teaching and performance careers.
Complementing her music schedule, Ms. Kent carried a comprehensive classical radio broadcast career, hosting daily drive-time air shifts and contributing to 24/7 “station identity” as a member of the programming team. She has also produced and hosted a number of interview and educational radio segments.
Ms. Kent holds a BM in flute performance from Boston Conservatory and a MM in flute performance from Boston University. Her principal teachers include William Grass (Boston Ballet), Philip Kaplan (BSO), Doriot Dwyer (BSO), and Leone Buyse (BSO). She has availed herself of countless masterclasses over the years, featuring world-renowned artists. She continues her studies with a new focus on Health & Wellness for the Musician, and is honored to be among BFA’s faculty.
