Adam Workman

Flute Faculty and Creative Resources Educator

Born and raised in small-town Vermont, flutist Adam Workman moved to Boston in 1998 to pursue his love of music.  He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Flute Performance from the Boston University College of Fine Arts where he studied with Marianne Gedigian, Jacques Zoon, and Linda Toote.  Mr. Workman also received considerable guidance from Jonathan Landell, Court Gettel, Louis Moyse, Steven Finley, David Straubinger, James Walker, and Paula Robison.

Mr. Workman has appeared in several orchestral, chamber, and solo performances throughout the country, including the Boston-based Commonwealth Chamber Players and the Fengate Chamber Players.  He released his first solo CD in 2009, a collection of favorite pieces from his musical youth.  The CD, “Tribute: Past, Present, Future,” was released under the Azadmusico label.

Sought after as a teacher and coach, Mr. Workman has had students accepted to the Yale and Longy Schools of Music, and has taught masterclasses at Boston University College of Fine Arts, Eastman School of Music, Peabody Conservatory of Music, and New England Conservatory of Music.  In addition to being a faculty member at the Boston Flute Academy, he maintains a private studio in downtown Boston.

After seeing a need for consultation services among arts professionals in his network, Mr. Workman founded Muddy River Creative in 2004.  Since then, he has worked on various creative projects with a number of musicians and businesses including Paula Robison, Marianne Gedigian, FluteFX, the Haynes Flute Company, Yesterday Service Music, and the National Flute Association in partnership with Sony RCA Records, to name a few.  Mr. Workman has proudly served as a member of the Board of Directors for the James Pappoutsakis Competition since 2007.
